MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY HOLIDAYS & A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR 2021 IN ADVANCE!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ANOTHER GREAT YEAR AT SAVY!

Year 2020 would have been a complete wash-out, but with your support, we’ve kept the Yoga going through online livestream classes. As a leading Yoga Studio in London, we are trusted with the health and wellbeing of our students and are committed to adopt the practices that offer the best protection for our community. The world is experiencing an unprecedented challenge due to the increasingly rapid transmission of COVID-19, now compounded with the addition of COVID-21, a mutant of COVID-19. As these are new viruses with unknown behavior, we are in uncharted seas and collective action to contain this challenge will see us through this unknown territory. In view of this, we have decided to keep all In-Person classes/ Sessions at SAVY’s Wortley Road Studio suspended till the situation improves.

Yoga is especially useful during tough situations like this. We already offer some wonderful programs for better physical & mental health; we’ll be announcing more useful programs very soon.

Meanwhile, please take good care of yourself and stay well. We eagerly look forward to practicing Yoga with you in Studio again. We’ll review the situation periodically and will keep you posted. Meanwhile, keep enjoying Yoga through our live-stream Yoga classes. Please let us know which program you want to join. Stay safe! We’re in this together. We wish you all the very best in coming days!

See you on the mat!

Namastey!

Thanks and Regards,

Breathing is central to life. Breathing is also a ‘beeja’, a key element in mindfulness and meditation. Thousands of years ago, Yogis noted the value of this divine Yogic knowledge to the functioning of the body and mind, and honed their skills to improve well-being as well as for spirituality, and transmitted their knowledge and experience to the next generations. They used these Yoga practices of breathing, mindfulness, meditation and more to survive under adverse conditions, including meditating in and under the snow in higher mountains for months in just a loin cloth. Yoga has been used therapeutically for thousands of years and there are many instances in history which stand witness to the fact.

Learning to consciously manipulate your breath trains your nervous system to synchronize with your immune system, hormonal system, and other physical and psychological detox systems.  You can literally activate your body’s innate healing responses just by breathing and strengthen body immunity. If you know how to use your breath you can make use of its full potential – just a few minutes a day can support your body in staying strong and resilient.

Modern Science has been testing the Yogic concepts and teachings in more recent times, and has confirmed the usefulness of those notions multiple times. As Arthur C. Guyton, M.D., writes in “The Textbook on Medical Physiology”, “All chronic pain, suffering and diseases are caused by a lack of oxygen at the cell level.” Research has shown that breathing directly affects the levels of nor-adrenaline, a natural chemical messenger in the brain. This chemical messenger is released when we are challenged, curious, exercised, focused or emotionally aroused, and also acts like a brain fertilizer. So, the way we breathe directly affects the chemistry of our brains in a way that can enhance our attention and improve our brain health. Brain health affects every aspect of our health positively. Another study showed that levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) increased after a trial of controlled breathing; GABA is important because of its anti-anxiety effects. Yet another study showed that lower levels of cytokines were found after Yogic breathing; these are linked to inflammation and stress. One study found an increase in Natural Killer (NK) cells after just 12 weeks of consistent practice; NK cells are the white blood cells that play a major role in fighting off viruses.

Also, mindfulness increases cortical thickness, thus improving memory, other cerebral functions and conscious control over the body and mind, activates pineal gland and balances hormonal secretions of the pituitary gland, thus creating a better optimized milieu interiur, regulates tone of vagus nerve, the longest nerve in the body, the master controller of our immune cells, viscera, and stem cells, and creates a balance between Sympathetic Nervous System and Parasympathetic Nervous System. It optimizes body immunity and has an important role to play in rejuvenation and longevity. It helps release any negativity, trauma or stress in the subconscious mind. There is no cell or system in the body which is not positively influenced by these wonderful techniques.

Tranquility Breath© balances the nervous system and brings order to the disordered emotional state. It improves the function of every single bodily system. A number of studies show that controlled breathing techniques are effective against multiple issues, including stress, anxiety, insomnia, trauma, arrhythmias and so on. These techniques influence both, physiological factors by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system, and psychological factors by diverting attention from thoughts. Also, Yoga acts through afferent pathways to the higher centers. These techniques are safe and easy to use.

LEARN ACCURATE TECHNIQUES FOR BEST RESULTS

Tranquility Breath© program will help you to deeply relax and more importantly support the re-balancing of your nervous system, whether you are a seasoned yogi, a wannabe, a newbie, or a yoga professional.

Samadhi

Samadhi, or contemplation, is transcending the physical body. This is a state of non-duality, of becoming one with everything & everyone, realizing the knowledge of the Absolute and moving through different stages of Samadhi. Patanjali talks about different stages of Samadhi:

  1. Sabija or Savikalpa or Sampragyanata Samadhi. This is samadhi with a ‘seed’, where the practitioner has an object of meditation in the mind. The object of meditation is called ‘pratyaya‘; it is associated with deliberation, reflection, bliss, and I-am-ness.  Sanskaras are not destroyed. Here, the Yogi is absorbed in ‘pratyaya‘ at a particular level of consciousness – it can occur at each of the four main levels of consciousness, progressing from the surface to the innermost depth of consciousness. Savitarka is gross samadhi. Savichara is subtle samadhi. Sananda is deep subtle samadhi. Asmita is still deeper subtle samadhi. These stages are:
    1. Sarvitarka Samadhi: This is consciousness of particulars. Here the mind is totally focused on the gross aspect of a physical object. This is described as examination or learning the inner secrets of the object. In this stage, every aspect of the object is understood and you gain full knowledge of the physical object. The mind, chitta, is concentrated upon a gross object with a manifest appearance that is perceptible to our senses, e.g., a flame, the tip of the nose, or the image of a deity. Vikalpa, or conceptualization, still takes place, in the form of perception, the word and the knowledge of the object of meditation.
    2. Savichara Samadhi: This is consciousness of archetypes. The mind moves beyond the outer layers of the object and the tanmatras, or the subtle aspects of objects, are discerned. This is reflective – the chitta is concentrated upon a subtle object of meditation which is not perceptible to the senses, but arrived at through inference, such as the senses, the cognition, the mind, the I-am-ness, the chakras, the inner-breath (prana), the nadis, the intellect (buddhi) etc. The abstract qualities of the object, e.g., aesthetics, color, beauty, sound quality etc., begin to be understood.
    3. Sananda Samadhi or Ananda: This is consciousness of patterns amongst the archetypes where the pattern becomes the focus instead of archetypes. The mind is devoid of the objective world and you move beyond the intellect. There is no reasoning or reflection, just the tranquility of the settled mind. The sattwic mind is only aware of its own joy. The focus is on the inner powers of perception and within the mind itself. It’s filled with joyful peace.
    4. Sa-Asmita Samadhi or Asmita: This is consciousness of wholeness. It is a state of witnessing of the material world and you become aware of the divinity within yourself. There are no divisions in awareness. You are omniscient but it is still nothing as compared to Kaivalya. The bliss has gone and you are just there. Only the sattwic ego, the I-ness, remains. There is simple awareness of individuality – no fear, no desire. In the Shankara Tradition this is known as Cosmic Consciousness. The mind becomes fully awake.
  2. Nirbija or Nirvikalpa or Asampragyanata Samadhi. This is samadhi without a ‘seed’. There is no pratyaya. This is a transition state between levels of consciousness. It has four transition states:
      1. Nirvitarka Samadhi. When the deliberation of the object ends in Savitarka Samadhi, it is called nirvitaka samadhi.
      2. Nirvichara Samadhi. The stilling of reflection in Savichara Samadhi is called Nirvichara Samadhi.
      3. Ananda to Asmita
      4. Asmita to Nirbija Samadhi
  3. Sahaja Samadhi. Some Yogis place this stage between Nirbija Samadhi and Dharma Megha Samadhi. Yogis say that the state of sahaj samadhi arises naturally and spontaneously, bringing peace, energy, expanded awareness and connection with the higher Self. Sahaj samadhi is beneficial for spiritual development, clear thinking, increased energy levels, improved physical health, stronger relationships and calmness.
  4. Dharma Megha Samadhi: This is the highest state of Samadhi all desires have dissolved. All that affects the mind, the causes of suffering, and the bondage of action disappears. Patanjali says that this stage contains and encompasses all that can be known, just as a cloud fills the sky, and just as rain quenches the thirsting earth, so this cloud pours down the rain of the Dharma and exstinguishes the raging fire of all kinds of instability. It is the transition state to Kaivalya. The borderline between the dharma-megha-samadhi and the kaivalya of Yoga is virtually imperceptible. The klesha and karma of the Yogi are eradicated, his knowledge is infinitely enlarged, his kaivalya is secured.
  5. Kaivalya: Kaivalya means ‘absolute freedom, liberation’. It is synonymous with moksha. This term is used by Patanjali and others in the yoga tradition to name the goal and fulfillment of yoga, the state of complete detachment, the state of complete liberation. Kaivalya is the perfectly transcendental state, the highest condition resulting from the ultimate realization. Kaivalya is not an escape from any thing; one simply abides in the ‘uncolored’ state without striving.

Another Study Establishes Role of Yoga in Breast Cancer

For thousands of years, Yogis have known how to control body processes and functions through yoga. Regular yoga practice is said to keep you healthy, retard the process of aging and improve quality of life. Even in modern times, many of the well-known exponents of yoga are known to lead healthy lives well into their nineties and beyond.

Recent years have seen an increased interest in the role yoga can play in health as well disease. With each passing day, more and more studies are putting a stamp of authenticity on what yogis have been claiming for  a long time. Though primarily meant for spiritual progress, Yoga has always been therapeutic too, and the recent times have seen an upsurge of interest in this ability of Yoga. Consequently, Yoga Therapy is now an upcoming modality with a lot of substance and potential to it. Yoga is capable of helping with prevention as well as in challenging the unhindered march of the beast of ill-health.

Very recently, research team at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre (TBCC) in Alberta and the University of Calgary Department of Oncology has published a study that establishes yoga has significant potential and should be further explored as a beneficial physical activity option for cancer survivors. The study found that telomeres, which are protein complexes at the end of chromosomes, maintain their length in breast cancer survivors who have psychological intervention, while telomeres shortened in women who were not involved in support groups. Shortened telomeres are associated with diseases, while longer ones are thought to help protect the body. In the study, in the Mindfulness-Based Cancer Recovery group, the women attended a 90-minute group session about meditation and Hatha yoga for eight weeks. They were also told to meditate and do yoga at home daily. In the Supportive Expressive Therapy group, the women met for 12 weeks for 90 minutes to talk about their concerns and feelings. It allowed them to express their emotions, rather than stifle them. Participants randomly placed in the control group attended one, six-hour stress management seminar, but did not experience any other interventions. It was seen that the women in both of the active groups where they learned meditation or yoga, or did the support groups, they all maintained their telomere lengths, so they were basically the same. But, the women in the control group who had no intervention — their telomeres became shorter..

Telomeres, Cancer and Aging

There has been a small group of scientists, gerontologists, studying the reasons we age and fall sick, for many years – how, and can we, slow down or control the process. More and more researchers are joining the field. Telomeres are protective pieces of DNA material at the ends of every chromosome in every cell in the body. Telomeres, like protective caps at the end of our shoelaces, function to protect our genome integrity and preserve cell function. As we age our telomeres shorten. Scientific studies have shown that short telomeres are associated with age related decline and dysfunction. Evidence clearly shows that people with long telomeres age healthier and live longer.

A telomere is a region of repetitive DNA at the end of a chromosome, which protects the end of the chromosome from deterioration. A telomere is a repeating DNA sequence (for example, TTAGGG) at the end of the body’s chromosomes. The telomere can reach a length of 15,000 base pairs. Telomeres function by preventing chromosomes from losing base pair sequences at their ends. They also stop chromosomes from fusing to each other. However, each time a cell divides, some of the telomere is lost (usually 25-200 base pairs per division). Telomeres protect a cell’s chromosomes from fusing with each other or rearranging—abnormalities which can lead to cancer—and so cells are normally destroyed when their telomeres are consumed. Most cancers are the result of “immortal” cells which have ways of evading this programmed destruction. Telomeres have been compared with the plastic tips on shoelaces, because they keep chromosome ends from fraying and sticking to each other, which would destroy or scramble an organism’s genetic information. When the telomere becomes too short, the chromosome reaches a “critical length” and can no longer replicate. This means that a cell becomes “old” and dies by a process called apoptosis.

Telomere activity is controlled by two mechanisms: erosion and addition. Erosion, as mentioned, occurs each time a cell divides. Addition is determined by the activity of telomerase.

Telomerase, also called telomere terminal transferase, is an enzyme made of protein and RNA subunits that elongates chromosomes by adding TTAGGG sequences to the end of existing chromosomes. Telomerase is found in fetal tissues, adult germ cells, and also tumor cells. Telomerase activity is regulated during development and has a very low, almost undetectable activity in somatic (body) cells. Because these somatic cells do not regularly use telomerase, they age. The result of aging cells is an aging body. If telomerase is activated in a cell, the cell will continue to grow and divide. This “immortal cell” theory is important in two areas of research: aging and cancer.

Cellular aging, or senescence, is the process by which a cell becomes old and dies. It is due to the shortening of chromosomal telomeres to the point that the chromosome reaches a critical length. Cellular aging is analogous to a wind up clock. If the clock stays wound, a cell becomes immortal and constantly produces new cells. If the clock winds down, the cell stops producing new cells and dies. Our cells are constantly aging. Being able to make the body’s cells live forever certainly creates some exciting possibilities.

Elizabeth Blackburn, Carol Greider, and Jack Szostak were awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of how chromosomes are protected by telomeres and the enzyme telomerase.

SAVY INTERNATIONAL

Hi there!

Modern Science is validating amazing results of breathing exercises! Usefulness of Yoga Therapy programs in treatment is being documented through various studies.  recent medical study concluded that Yoga breathing (Pranayama) was a feasible intervention among patients with cancer receiving chemotherapy; pranayama may improve sleep disturbance, anxiety, and mental quality of life and a dose-response relationship was found between pranayama use and improvements in chemotherapy-associated symptoms and quality of life.

You’ll also be given an overview of all major modalities of treatment available. You’ll be given an overview of the role of mindfulness and breathing exercises in these diseases. We’ll introduce you to a system of mindfulness and breathing retraining which delivers immediate and sustained improvement for people with stress and/ or anxiety, based on DSBH Therapy and Dr. Sahdev’s clinical work in India spanning over three decades. • Potent – as medical research into their effectivity has shown so far, these methods are quite effective and potent, and in good hands and with proper guidance, success rate is quite predictable
  • Effective – these breathing exercises significantly decrease stress, anxiety, insomnia symptoms
  • Safe – we follow international best practice guidelines

How is it beneficial to me?

Stress and Anxiety Care Workshop will give you an overview of stress and anxiety management and introduce you to some basic breathing exercises in DSBH Therapy (full program offered in separate workshops) for  breathing re-training which is completely natural, safe, potent, effective and totally drug-free. The Personal Cost of Stress and Anxiety and related conditions

More than 80% diseases are psycho-somatic. Every year many people with stress and anxiety-related conditions suffer from ill effects and even physical incapacity, fatigue, time off work or school with a poor quality of life, ongoing financial expenses and a deteriorating condition. People with SLEEP APNOEA have an increased risk for cardiovascular illnesses such as high blood pressure, heart attack and strokes, and in addition, SLEEP APNOEA is associated with a higher risk for road accidents due to daytime sleepiness. Learning DSBH Therapy will provide you with the knowledge and skills to get back your health and your life.

What does Stress and Anxiety Care Workshop entail?

Stress and Anxiety Care Workshop consists of two hours of teaching. Clients learn some exercises to retrain their breathing to enable them to breathe correctly. Improvement generally commences within the first 24 hours.

ARE YOU SUFFERING FROM ASTHMA?

DO YOU KNOW THAT EXERCISES INCLUDED IN DSBH THERAPY CAN REALLY HELP YOU?

Asthma is a long-term lung disease that inflames and narrows the airways. Asthma causes recurring periods of wheezing, a whistling sound when you breathe, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and coughing. The coughing often occurs at night or early in the morning.

According to the World Health Organization, asthma is now a serious public health problem with over 235 million sufferers worldwide. According to Statistics Canada, 8.5% of the population (aged 12 and over) have been diagnosed as having asthma (2010). Asthma is most common during childhood and affects at least 13% of Canadian children. Asthma continues to be a major cause of hospitalization of children in Canada.

What do I learn in a Asthma and Allergy Care Workshop?

You will learn about asthma, allergies, their symptoms, their pathogenesis according to Modern Medicine. You’ll also be given an overview of all major modalities of treatment available. You’ll be given an overview of the role of breathing exercises in these diseases. We’ll introduce you to a system of breathing retraining which delivers immediate and sustained improvement for people with asthma, allergies, sleep apnoea, snoring and other breathing-related conditions, based on DSBH Therapy and Dr. Sahdev’s clinical work in India spanning over three decades. This system is:

  • Scientific basis – based on the standard medical principles of respiration, guidelines of the science of breathing-Pranayama and supported by research
  • Natural – it’s all natural and no supplements, vitamins, pills are advised
  • Drug-free – categorically no drugs are involved in any form
  • Potent – as medical research into their effectivity has shown so far, these methods are quite effective and potent, and in good hands and with proper guidance, success rate is quite predictable
  • Effective – these breathing exercises significantly decrease asthma symptoms and reduce/ eliminate the need for asthma medications
  • Safe – we follow international best practice guidelines

How is it beneficial to me?

Asthma and Allergy Care Workshop will give you an overview of Asthma and Allergy management and introduce you to DSBH Therapy (offered in separate workshops) for  breathing re-training which is completely natural, safe, potent, effective and totally drug-free. You receive advice on management of asthma and allergies. If you are suffering from Panic Attacks or Sleep Apnoea the appropriate advice will be given to help you improve these specific conditions. The Workshop teaches you breathing techniques and strategies which help you to optimise breathing. The aim is to learn breathing patterns to help you become a normal healthy person again. Normalising the breathing pattern in this way results in a decline in symptoms and need for medication.

Expected Outcome with DSBH Therapy

· Significant reduction in/or elimination of, asthma reliever and preventer medications

· Significant reduction in/or elimination of, asthma symptoms and attacks

Breathing Exercises for Stress,Anxiety,Insomnia, with Immediate Relief

Ever since I started teaching yoga in London ON, I’ve been big on breathing exercises in all my yoga classes. I realized, surprisingly, the lack of awareness about Pranayama and other elements of Yoga. Almost three decades of my career as a physician and yoga therapist have taught me a lot about Pranayama or breathing exercises, and fortunately, I’ve been able to use all I learned for the good of everyone, in India and here, in Canada.

Bringing your nervous system back into balance

Stress is necessary for life. Like finely-tuned strings of a guitar, you need stress for creativity, learning, and your very survival. Stress is only harmful when it becomes overwhelming and interrupts the healthy state of equilibrium that your nervous system needs to remain in balance. Unfortunately, overwhelming stress has become an increasingly common characteristic of contemporary life.

When stress overwhelms your nervous system your body is flooded with chemicals that prepare you for “fight or flight.” While the stress response can be lifesaving in emergency situations where you need to act quickly, it wears your body down when constantly activated by the stresses of everyday life. Stress and trauma can play havoc with every aspect of health.

Stress and Trauma

The relaxation response puts the brakes on this heightened state of readiness and brings your body and mind back into a state of equilibrium. When stress throws your nervous system out of balance, relaxation techniques can bring it back into a balanced state by producing the relaxation response, a state of deep calmness that is the polar opposite of the stress response.

Very often I come across stress and anxiety related problems in my practice as Yoga Therapist. When trying to sleep, I am told, “I am disturbed by a bombardment of thoughts!” As dictated by my past experience with Pranayama, I usually suggest that the client try some very simple breathing exercises while lying in bed at night to help her relax and fall asleep. The practice is simple: a few minutes of deep, diaphragmatic breathing followed by a few minutes of consciously and gently extending each exhalation. The feedback for this very simple breathing manoeuvre has been overwhelmingly superlative!

Some of my clients/ students who learnt these breathing exercises from me three years ago, are still doing them. In India, some of my patients who learnt these exercises more than twenty years back, continue doing them and are hale and hearty! Pranayama, the fourth amongst Ashtanga, or the eight limbs, does not essentially have to be complicated.

Relaxation technique that’s best for you

There is no single relaxation technique that is best for everyone, but practically, I’ve seen Pranayama being helpful in all situations, esp. in the long run. When choosing a relaxation technique, consider your specific needs, preferences, fitness level, and the way you tend to react to stress. The right relaxation technique is the one that resonates with you, fits your lifestyle, and is able to focus your mind and interrupt your everyday thoughts in order to elicit the relaxation response. In many cases, you may find that alternating or combining different techniques will keep you motivated and provide you with the best results.

Pranayama literally means ‘prana‘ and ‘ayam‘; ‘prana’ means the life force or energy, and ‘ayam’ means to extend, so pranayama means “to extend the vital life force,”. The physician of gods is ‘Ashwin’, Vedas say, which literally means the breath. It is an incredibly rich practice made up of many breathing techniques that vary in complexity from ones simple enough for a child to do to those appropriate only for advanced yogi. Breathing is one involuntary process which can be very easily controlled voluntarily, and pranayama teaches us how to do that exactly.

The best way to practice pranayama is ALWAYS under the guidance of an experienced teacher, though there are simple techniques—such as gentle diaphragmatic breathing and comfortably lengthening the exhalation—that can be used at any time to transform not only your breath but also your state of mind.

I try to exploit the technique to its full potential in my practice. In my work as a yoga therapist, I treat people struggling with a large variety of issues, including stress, depression, anxiety, sleep disturbances, high cholesterol, heart diseases, chronic pain, and even life-threatening illnesses. Time and time again, I’ve seen simple pranayama practices reduce stress and anxiety; promote restful sleep; ease pain; increase attention and focus; and, on a more subtle, deeper level, help people connect to a calm and quiet space within so that they experience greater clarity and well-being on every level.

In the Yoga Sutra, Patanjali describes pranayama as a process by which you can break your unconscious breathing pattern and make the breath long, easy, and smooth. Most people’s unconscious breathing patterns are anything but easy and smooth; they tend to be shallow, tense and erratic. When we are afraid or hear bad news, we often gasp— inhaling sharply, holding the breath and then breathing fast and shallow. These breathing patterns can activate the sympathetic nervous system, referred to as the “fight or flight response, or may be a sign of it.

One of the primary reasons that pranayama techniques that include a long, smooth exhale are so beneficial is because, when applied optimally and correctly, they can activate the parasympathetic nervous system and evoke the “relaxation response,” countering stress and anxiety and its effects on your body and mind. When your focus stays on the breath, the muscles also tend to relax. As a result, with a calmer, more focused and still mind, your resilience in the face of challenge or adversity increases.

Recently, based on and encouraged by my past clinical experience, I have launched a routine of breathing exercises by the name of Dr Sahdev’s ‘Breathe and Heal’ Program. The breathing exercises included in the program have shown to be very effective and I expect this program to be very useful. This will be the core of Yoga Therapy programs at SAVY and we are working on introducing programs for serious diseases one by one. We have already launched Fight Cancer’ Program for cancer care.

A Calm and Quiet Mind

The eight limbs of yoga outlined in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras are a path to help you reach an unperturbed state of mind, or focus. But this focus is not the end goal. As Patanjali says, as a result of reaching this state of attention, you experience clearer perception and a heightened connection with your true inner Self.

When you’re better connected with your true Self, it becomes easier to see what exactly is not your true Self and this discernment allows you to act with detachment and greater efficiency.

Pranayama is an important tool to get you to this state of more focus, leading you on to clearer perception, a greater connection with Self, and ultimately a more fulfilled life. Patanjali’s ‘Yoga Darshana’, sutra 2.52 says, ”Tataah ksheeyte prakashavaranam.”, “As a result [of pranayama], the sheath that blocks our own inner light, disappears.” And then our inner light shows the path. In other words, through the practice of pranayama, you can reduce all the disturbance, agitation, distractions, and self-doubt that prevents you from connecting with your own inner light- your true Self. In this way, pranayama can have a profoundly positive influence on your life.

The Practice

Though practice of pranayama is safest and most effective only when guided by an experienced teacher who knows your needs and limitations, there are some simple techniques you can try yourself as long as you’re in good health and don’t push yourself to limits!

The three breathing practices:

  • relaxed, diaphragmatic breathing;
  • Shitali (or Shitkari) Pranayama; and
  • gentle “extended exhale” breathing,

are a good introduction to pranayama. Each exercise supports the parasympathetic nervous system, quietens the mind, and helps to bring about a state of more focused attention. As you become more aware of your breath, you may start to notice when you are unintentionally holding your breath or breathing shallow. You also may begin to associate patterns of the breath with your moods or states of mind. This self-awareness is the starting point towards using Pranayama to help change your patterns and, through regular practice, bring more positivity in your life. Pranayama is a very deep, effective and profound science, but this can be a good introduction to the potential of your breath.

You can do them at just about any time of day, 5 hours after a large meal. Try these exercises and feel the difference!

Basic Breath Awareness

This introductory diaphragmatic or deep breathing exercise teaches you how to breathe more fully and consciously.

Benefits: Deep breathing stimulates parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress and anxiety and hence calming you down.

How often: At least once a day, at any time, preferably on empty stomach in the morning.

Steps

  • Sit down or lie down comfortably on your back, knees slightly bent and feet flat on the floor almost hip-distance apart.
  • Keep your spine – back and neck, naturally straight.
  • Place a palm on your abdomen and breathe comfortably, noticing the quality of your breath.
  • Simply observe your breath.
  • Then gradually make your breathing increasingly relaxed and smoother, and deeper.
  • Once the breath feels relaxed and comfortable, notice the movement of your abdomen. As you inhale, feel the abdomen expand under your hand; as you exhale, feel the subtle contraction of the abdomen.
  • Gently, try to actively expand the abdomen on the inhale and contract the abdomen on the exhale to support the natural movement of diaphragm and experience a full, relaxed breath.
  • Repeat it for 8 to 10 breaths.

Sheetali – The Cooling Breath

Sheetali means “one which cools” because the act of drawing the air across the tongue and into the mouth is said to have a cooling and calming effect. To practice it, you need to be able to curl the sides of your tongue up and in so that it looks like a tube. This ability to curl the tongue is a genetic trait. If you can’t curl your tongue, just protrude your tongue a little over your lips and roll it into a tube as much as you can.

Benefits: Improves focus; reduces agitation, anger, and anxiety; and pacifies excess heat in the system.

How often: Do not repeat it more than 10 times once a day.

Steps

  • Sit comfortably, either in a chair or on the floor, shoulders relaxed and spine – back and neck, naturally erect.
  • Slightly lower the chin, curl the tongue on its sides, and protrude it out of your mouth.
  • Inhale gently through the “tube” thus formed by your curled tongue as you slowly lift your chin toward the ceiling, only as far as the neck comfortably permits.
  • At the end of the inhalation, with your chin comfortably raised, retract your tongue and close the mouth.
  • Exhale slowly through nostrils as you gently lower your chin back to a neutral position.
  • Repeat for 8 to 10 breaths.

The Long Exhale

This breathing practice which involves gradually increasing your exhalation until it is twice the length of your inhalation, has an immediate and immense relaxing effect.

Benefits: Helps in insomnia, sleep disturbances, stress and anxiety.

How often: At bedtime to induce sleep, in the middle of the night if you’re struggling with sleeplessness, or at any time of the day to calm down.

Steps

  • Begin by lying on your back with bent knees and flat feet, hip wide on the floor.
  • Place a hand on the abdomen and take a few relaxed breaths, feeling the abdomen expand and contract under your hand.
  • With your hand on your abdomen, mentally count the length of each inhalation and exhalation for several more breaths.
  • If the duration of inhalation is longer than that of exhalation, you can begin to make it the same length as exhalation over the next few breaths.
  • When your inhalation and exhalation are equal, gradually start working on the length of your exhalation.
  • Continue breathing in a smooth and relaxed manner, and keep increasing the exhalation by 1-2 counts once every few breaths.
  • Make sure you experience no strain as the exhalation time increases and continue until your exhalation is up to twice the length of the inhalation. For example, if your inhalation is 5 seconds, do not increase the length of your exhalation beyond 10 seconds.
  • Keep in mind that even an exhalation that is only slightly longer than the inhalation can induce relaxation, so take care that you don’t push yourself beyond your capacity; doing so will only be counter-productive. Keep it comfortable and easy. Breathe like this for 8 to 10 breaths.
  • Then finish your practice with 4 to 5 natural, deep, relaxed breaths.

Follow this routine for a few days and experience the difference these simple breathing techniques can make for stress, anxiety and sleep related problems.

FIGHT CANCER

Fight Cancer

In an effort to provide hope and help to cancer patients and survivors, on or off treatment, at any stage of disease, we have introduced ‘Fight Cancer’ program as an extension of our Disease Reversal with Yoga Therapy and Dr Sahdev’s ‘Breathe and Heal’ programs.

Dr Sahdev’s ‘Breathe and Heal’ Program is the first, and so far the only, program in the world, to offer the benefits of Breathing Exercises and Surya-Yoga together for cancer and other major and minor diseases.

Cancer, like so many other diseases, has been eluding cure despite all medical research and informed enquiry so far. Skin cancer, Lung cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, lymphomas, leukemias, thyroid cancer, endometrial cancer…, the march of cancer is unhindered and any measures have not proved sufficient to contain its advance. Millions of people die every year because of cancer.

The link between insufficient oxygen and disease was established by modern science long time back. Dr. Otto Warburg was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1931 and again in 1944 for discovering the cause of cancer. He said, “Cancer has only one prime cause. The prime cause of cancer is the replacement of normal oxygen respiration of body cells by an anaerobic (oxygen-less) cell respiration.” Once the level of oxygen available to a cell drops below 60% of normal, the cell is forced to switch to an inferior method of energy production — fermentation. The cell can never be returned to the proper oxidation system, and loses its governor on replication. It begins to reproduce copies of itself wildly, a condition we call cancer. His findings were endorsed by The National Cancer Institute in 1952. Dr. Harry Goldbatt  published his findings in the Journal of Experimental Medicine in 1953 and his research confirmed that lack of oxygen plays the major role in causing cells to become cancerous. Dr. Albert Wahl said, “Disease is due to a deficiency in the oxidation process of the body, leading to an accumulation of toxins. These toxins are ordinarily burned in normal oxidation.” Dr. Wendell Hendricks of the Hendricks Research Foundation wrote: ” Cancer is a condition within the body where the oxidation has become so depleted that the body cells have degenerated beyond control. The body is so overloaded with toxins that it sets up a tumor mass to harbor these poisons and remove them from general activity within the body.” The evidence from these doctors’ research is conclusive. Oxygen plays the primary role in health and well-being. It is important to note that fear, worry and depression all interfere with free breathing and thus reduce oxygen uptake.

Hope sustains life and the remedy for all this is right under your nose! Yoga has a well-established palliative and supportive role and it is already being recommended to cancer patients by various hospitals. Pranayama or the Science of Breathing offers still greater healing potential and is a ray of hope! Ashwin, or the moving breath, is the physician of gods – thus goes a verse from the Vedas! According to the scriptures, breath, if directed properly, can cure each and every disease. Pranayama, the science of breathing, has a lot to offer and holds a lot of promise. Physically speaking, 70% of toxins in our body are thrown out through breathing. So, breathing exercises offer to actively detoxify your body, optimise stress level, regulate lymph flow, balance hormones in the body, balance sympathetic and parasympathetic parts of the autonomic nervous system, increase nitrous oxide production, stimulate pituitary gland directly, offer gentle massage to internal organs and even achieve much more than that. In an effort to heal the chronic, intractable and so far incurable diseases, recent years have seen a surge of interest in the healing potential of breathing exercises as well. A lot of work is being done on breathing exercises and their effects in some parts of the world and there have been reports of some amazing results.  recent medical study concluded that Yoga breathing (Pranayama) was a feasible intervention among patients with cancer receiving chemotherapy; pranayama may improve sleep disturbance, anxiety, and mental quality of life and a dose-response relationship was found between pranayama use and improvements in chemotherapy-associated symptoms and quality of life. And there are reports of cure of cancer, though unconfirmed by Modern Medicine, from some parts of the world! Surya-Traatak, or better known in the west as Sun-Gazing, a procedure in Surya Yoga or Sun Yoga, stimulates pineal and pituitary, also boosts body immunity, and this aspect can certainly be used to help control or cure diseases.

Dr Sahdev’s ‘Breathe and Heal’ Program, to fight cancer as well, is based on effective breathing techniques, validated by the stringent test of time and the millions who tried them, and backed and refined by Dr Sahdev’s almost three decades of study and superlative clinical experience at the fore-front of main-stream Medicine, inspired by his work in Surgical Oncology, Neurosurgery and other Super Specialities at premier medical institutes in India, his study, training and work in other Alternative modalities and Yoga, and an input of thousands of hours of educated and qualified clinical research and its deep analysis in India, these breathing and other techniques have been proven to actually deliver!

‘Fight Cancer’ program revolves mainly around breathing exercises, though there are other elements like Yoga Nutrition, Marma, Surya Traatak et al also.

To say the least, and claim the minimum, studies on the effect of breathing exercises done in the past on cancer patients have shown the following results:

  • Increased overall physical activity levels
  • Improved strength
  • Improved mood states
  • Decreased levels of perceived stress
  • Improved quality of life

With this newer and more refined ‘Fight Cancer’ program, we hope to go further and achieve much more.

We accept clients with any stage, any type, any level of the disease progression, provided they are able to breathe and follow instructions.

‘Fight Cancer’ is a stepped program. Clients start with the first step of Dr Sahdev’s ‘Breathe and Heal’ Program. They are required to learn and practice this routine of breathing exercises. After practicing this set of exercises for some time, at the dedicated classes at the Studio or at home, they can go in for the next step in Dr Sahdev’s ‘Breathe and Heal’ Program  when they are ready for it. The progress is individually monitored. Along with this breathing program, they have the option of getting guidance on Yoga Nutrition, and Marma Therapy as well. At a little more advanced level, some more procedure are also included.

This program can be easily followed by anyone who can breathe and can follow instruction. Those desirous of participating in the program can contact at the earliest possible and register for Dr Sahdev’s ‘Breathe and Heal’ Program program without losing any time. We want to be as helpful as possible, as early as possible.

Start with getting the Dr Sahdev’s ‘Breathe and Heal’ Program – Beginners CD/ audio + information booklet from the Studio and start practicing, or better still, go to Dr Sahdev’s ‘Breathe and Heal’ Program  page, fill up the contact form and send it to start the registration process for the next upcoming workshop.

Nabho Mudra in Dr Sahdev’s ‘Breathe and Heal’ Program
Nabho Mudra
Nabho Mudra

Nabho Mudra is a part of Dr Sahdev’s Breathe and Heal Therapy. Nabho Mudra involves the touching the tongue to the palate and is somewhat similar to Khechari mudra in its action. Nabho mudra is mentioned in Gheranda Samhita and is practiced by meditators from various traditions. Nabho mudra is an easy form of Khechari Mudra, which is mentioned in Hatha Yoga Pradipika, and can be easily practised by anyone.

In Gheranda Samhita, Nabho Mudra is described as a practice where the practitioner turns the tongue upwards to meet the palate and then retains the breath. The text says that one can also do this during all activities like sitting, walking, etc.

Nabho Mudra or Simple/ Small Khechari – which Gheranda Samhita claims, can remove all disease and suffering of the Yogi, forms an integral part of Dr Sahdev’s ‘Breathe and Heal’ Program, a scientifically and yogically correct and very effective breathing and meditation routine, full of possibilities. In Sanskrit, ‘Nabho’ means ‘space or heavens or sky’ and mudra means ‘posture’. So, literally it can be translated as ‘Space or Heavens or Sky Posture’. Mudras are the postures and act as smaller body locks for energy. Mahatma Budha also made use of Nabho mudra and Vipashyana, now more popular as Vipassana (Pali language), during meditation.

The breadth and depth of understanding and knowledge from the Vedas and other classical Yoga books from thousands of years ago is just astounding, overwhelming, breath-taking and divine! In this modern era, we have just begun to understand this unfathomable sea of knowledge, handed down from generation to generation in a few brief and concise verses, and experiential practices. The full potential of all this knowledge in physical, mental, metaphysical and spiritual dimensions can be comprehended by a devout, practising yoga practitioner through regular practice only.

Nabho Mudra is simple, more of a Raja Yoga practice. Khechari Mudra, a more profound, practice, done in Hatha Yoga, involves taking the tongue all the way back to reach the nasal cavity. Traditional Hatha Yoga is intended to lead to Raja Yoga, the ‘Royal Yoga’, the goal of which is the highest state of consciousness known as SamadhiKhechari is done with a lot of effort like milking the tongue and sometimes even cutting the frenulum of the tongue to free it. Once it is able to reach the nasal cavity, it can then be extended to the roof of the cavity. By stimulating certain regions of the cavity with the tongue, the yogi gets the benefit of amrita or nectar, as per Hatha Yoga Pradipika. Through this nectar, the yogi rejuvenates his body and attains long and healthy life. Whether this nectar is a physical secretion, or modulation of secretions from the master and other glands, is yet to be ascertained.

Many masters say that cutting the frenulum for Khechari is unnecessary and the same results can be gained through constant practice of Nabho Mudra. It is said that during certain stages of meditation, the tongue automatically goes and touches the roof of the palate. By constant practice, the tongue can go further back towards the throat, till it touches the uvula at the back. Finally it can be made to enter the nasal cavity. This takes years of practice.

This mudra was kept a well-guarded secret for thousands of years, and very correctly so. Nabho and Khechari take the Yogi a step closer to gaining full control over the processes of the physical body. It is an old technique to achieve peace of mind and to facilitate a state of silent and deep meditation, and hence achieving the highest state of samadhi or contemplation.  Talavya or Talabhya Kriya (‘Talu‘ means palate; ‘Talavya‘ or ‘Talabhya‘ means related to palate) is the preparatory exercise to advance to a perfect Khechari Mudra. It must be learnt directly from a physical ‘Guru‘ and should only be practiced under direct supervision of the Guru. It takes a lot of practice to learn and to do accurately even when explained properly and correctly, and it must not be attempted except under expert guidance of a learned ‘Guru’ or teacher after understanding the procedure correctly. That is more because of what these mudras are capable of rather than just the procedures. Preliminary, preparatory procedures and training in Talabhya Kriya and other procedures are essential for serious exponents of Yoga.  Amateurish attempts at this may lead to many complications. However, very simple or initial versions can be explained and understood easily and can be taught even to non-yogis and not-so-advanced yogis.

Nabho Mudra can also be considered an easier option to the practice of full Khechari mudra. Though it remains to be documented medically, but clinically and in traditional Yoga practices, many different types of diseases, even intractable ones, have been found to resolve by the practice of this mudra.

As a Sanskrit verse explains about Nabho Mudra:

यत्र यत्र स्थितों योगी सर्वकार्येषु सर्वदा।

उर्ध्वजिव्ह: स्थिरो भूत्वाधारयेत्मवनं सदा।

नभोमुद्रा मवेदुषा योद्विना रोग नाशिनी।।

Yatra yatra sthitom yogi sarvakaryeshu sarvada

Urdhvajivha sthiro bhutvadharyetmavanam sada

Nabhomudra mavedusha yogvina roga nashini

Meaning

The yogi, who stays constant in all aspects at all times, controls the breath

by placing the frontal part of tongue on the palate inside the mouth.

It puts an immediate stop to all mental turmoil.

All the diseases of yogi are destroyed by the practice of this mudra.

Hatha Yoga Pradipika states:

अथ खेछरी

When the yogi now curls his tongue upward and back, he is able to, close the place where the three paths meet. The bending back of the tongue is khechari mudra and closes the three paths in akasha chakra. The yogi who remains but half a minute in this position is free from illness, old age and death. He who has mastered khechari mudra is not afflicted with disease, death, laziness, hunger, thirst and swooning. (HYP 8: 32-39)

Hatha Yoga Pradipika further says:

Daily he may eat the flesh of the cow and drink wine. The word go (cow) in Vedic language means tongue; eating it is to thrust it into the gullet, which produces heat in the body causing nectar to flow out of the moon (chandra nadi) situated on the left side of the eyebrow centre, also called ida nadi, and that is called drinking wine. (HYP 8: 47-49)

Gherand Samhita states:

The body becomes beautiful; samadhi is attained, and the tongue touching the holes in the roof of the mouth obtains various juices – first he experiences a saltish taste, through alkaline to bitter then astringent, then he feels the taste of butter then ghee, then of milk, then of curds, then of whey, then of honey, then of palm juice, and lastly arises the taste of nectar. (GS iii, 30-32)

Procedure

It must be learnt and practised only under an expert guidance. It is explained here as a reference for the benefit of those who are learning under an expert teacher.

  1. Sit in any of the Yogic sitting postures such as Padmasana, Sukhasana, Vajrasana, sitting in a chair or in stand-at-ease position. Initially, it is prudent to choose one of the sitting postures.

  2. A correct and easy way of doing Nabho Mudra is by putting the tongue up against the palate, with the tip of the tongue touching between back of your teeth and hard palate, and tongue pressing against the hard palate, and keeping it there for as long as you can do it comfortably. More advanced techniques give access to varied functions.

  3. A correct and easy way of doing first level of Khechari Mudra is to put the tip of the tongue against the soft palate, behind the hard palate. For this, the tongue has to be turned upside down, bringing the undersurface of the tongue up, and touching the tip of the tongue with the soft palate. Keep it there for as long as you can. If you feel uncomfortable or feel pain, unroll your tongue and relax for a few seconds and again resume. Build up your practice slowly. A low protein diet helps advancing in this process, as does singhasana (the lion pose).

  4. Also, at the same time, you should be doing Shambhavi mudra – keep the eyesight in the middle of both the eyebrows, at Aagya Chakra. It’s more easily done with eyes closed. shambhavi

The correct and complete practice of Nabho Mudra is achieved only when your eyesight is between both the eyebrows, in Shambhavi Mudra, and your tongue is in contact with the palate. Both of these should be accomplished together at one time.

Also, Nabho Mudra can be practiced with PranayamaGheranda Samhita also instructs about retaining the breath during this practice. That is optional during meditation. During meditation, the breath naturally slows down. During deeper states, one may experience natural suspension of breath for a few minutes. This is called Kevala kumbhaka. Forcing Kevala Kumbhak is unnecessary and undesirable.

Understanding the Action of Nabho Mudra

Though explanation of the full effects and the actions of this simple, and to many seemingly illogical and unscientific, yogic procedure or pose is beyond the scope of this article, yet we can make an attempt to understand basic mechanism of some of the leading physical effects of Nabho Mudra, and to some extent, Khechari Mudra.

During Nabho mudra the tongue is fixed in one spot touching the palate. When the tongue doesn’t move, the onslaught of thoughts also decreases naturally. Thoughts may still occur, but only minimally. This principle is of great help in meditation. Instead of fighting with thoughts, just use Nabho mudra to get substantial help to reduce thoughts per minute.

In Yogic terms, we understand that the cosmic or prana energy can flow through the Sushumna nadi and nourish the entire body. This flow may be interrupted at the region of the throat. The prana energy flows from Vishudhi Chakra to organs of speech.

chakras3

If the flow of prana energy is obstructed or is obliterated, this may cause or contribute towards the instability or distractibility of the mind. Nabho mudra connects that prana energy directly to the next energy centre, i.e., Aagya Chakra, through various marma points. Thus, it helps bypass the normal route and encourages freer flow of prana. Placing the tongue against the palate is one way to bypass this blockage. This reconnection tends to calm the mind and leads to attainment of eternal bliss. This depends on the point of contact – the alveolar groove, the hard palate, the soft palate, the epiglottis, the nares, etc.; the tongue gets connected to various nadis, or energy channels, by touching marma points. Just by putting your tongue up, you can use Nabho mudra to connect the front and back channels of your body which prevents build up of too much pitta or heat. Nabho mudra can also be used to passively conduct energy flow to various upper centers and marmas (bindu, sahasrara, aagya, sthapani, simanta, etc.).

When practising routines that arouse kundalini, it is one of three safety factors that prevent ‘burn out’ in the head region, while still allowing flow of cooler energy through the crown, the third eye, and all of the associated bindus. The other two safety factors are a fully relaxed jaw release, and a suspended head position, which is said to release krikatika marma.

krikatika

Medically speaking, our body responds to any kind of threat by the ‘fight or flight’ response.

autonomic-nervous-system

In either case, sympathetic nervous system kicks in and it leads to a rise in blood pressure, in addition to other phenomena.  Tension and stress of daily living are also perceived by the body as a danger signal and have the same physiology, and the body responds through the stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system.

stress

The sensory nerves from the tongue to the brain, are branches of the trigeminal, facial, glossopharyngeal and vagus nerves; all of these, except the trigeminal, are linked to the parasympathetic component of the autonomic nervous system.

nerve-supply-of-tongue

Thus, through the practice of Nabho or Khechari Mudra, we stimulate these nerves which are concerned with relaxation and also monitor taste, secretion of the different salivary glands, respiration, and so on. Through the parasympathetic nervous system, we also gain access to the hypothalamus and the endocrine glands. A side effect of using Nabho or Khechari mudra in the quest for higher consciousness is the regulation of the endocrine system, especially the pituitary gland. Nabho or Khechari allow us to control thirst and hunger. Through more advanced practices, Yogis learn to get conscious control over regulation of brain centres for blood pressure, temperature, respiration etc.

Also, body mechanisms including Carotid sinuses help to control and regulate blood pressure.

carotid-sinus

Carotid sinuses are two remarkable organs situated at the bifurcation of the carotid artery on each side, in front of the neck and just below the level of the jaws, at the level of the thyroid cartilage or Adam’s apple. The carotid sinuses contain numerous baroreceptors which function as a “sampling area” for many homeostatic mechanisms for maintaining blood pressure. The carotid sinus baroreceptors are innervated by the sinus nerve of Hering, which is a branch of the IX cranial nerve . The glossopharyngeal nerve makes synapses in the nucleus tractus solitarii (NTS) located in the medulla oblongata of the brainstem. The NTS indirectly modulates the activity of sympathetic and parasympathetic (vagal) neurons in the medulla and pons through the hypothalamus. These neurons then regulate the autonomic control of the heart and blood vessels.

ans-reflex

The brain responds immediately to such a stimulus by adjusting the heart rate and contraction of the arterioles, thus correspondingly adjusting the blood pressure to keep it within normal range.

Thus, Nabho mudra, in very mechanistic terms, acts by virtue of the anatomical proximity of the root of the tongue to the carotid sinuses in the neck and through access to the parasympathetic nervous system through the nerves supplying tongue. The pull at the root of the tongue acts by applying a subtle drag on these sinuses in the neck, causing them to react as though they have detected high blood pressure, with the result that the heartbeat and the blood pressure decrease. This leads to relief in stress response and overall physical and mental relaxation.

These carotid sinuses as well as the sinus nerves were well known in ancient times. Shiva Samhita says: “Stop the flow of the vigyana nadis (sinus nerves) with the second fingers. This gives siddhi (power or control attained by a Yogi through practice) in the form of happiness and bliss.”

carotid-sinus

The implications of the above verses are obvious: if you gently press these carotid sinuses then you will become very relaxed and perhaps a little faint. This can help in various other yogic practices that lead to meditation. But all this must not be tried by an uninitiated person or except under  guidance and supervision.

Sira Matrika Marmas described in Sushruta Samhita correspond with the position of carotid sinuses. In the science of Marmani Chikitsa or Marma Therapy, there are five types of Marmas on the basis of consequences, in which one type is Sadyapranahara Marma, that means injury to these Marma leads to sudden death. Sira Matrika Marmas are eight in number, lie in the neck on either side of Kanthnadi between Nila and Manya Marmas, along the carotid artery. These are Sadyapranahara Marmas.

Kalaripayattu is one of the oldest fighting systems in the world and is called the mother of martial arts. (Malayalam and Tamil, kalari: school or gymnasium, payattu: to fight or to exercise or to put hard work into. In Sanskrit, ‘Khalurika’ means parade ground or arena, and ‘payas’ means power or strength, or ‘pasi‘ meaning spear)  In this martial art, site corresponding to sira matrika is considered one of the death-causing marmani.

In acupuncture, an offspring of Marmani Chikitsa, the point renying or Stomach 9 corresponds to the location of Sira Matrika Marma. The same point is used in acupressure also.

In Dim Mak or Kyoshu Jitsu, renying is considered one of the killer points. This point is also used to subdue the opponent in karate and krav maga

As explained in the video below, carotid sinus massage is a useful procedure in Medicine too:

Benefits

Nabho mudra is a very simple practice but it has many subtle influences on the health of body and brain.

  • It helps modulate the parasympathetic system which leads to a state of relaxation, and results in immediate calmness of the mind and body.
  • Nabho Mudra has a profound effect on diseases of heart, lungs and brain and helps overcome insomnia, anxiety, high blood pressure, diseases of tongue, throat, eyes and is especially beneficial in all stress – related or psychosomatic diseases.
  • In conjunction with breathing exercises, mudras and procedures, this can influence health very positively and can help overcome diseases.
  • When the tongue is inserted into the nasal cavity in Khechari Mudra, many small nerves and glands are activated, thereby increasing the autonomous control of the body.
  • It is also said to decalcify the pineal gland, which plays an important role in spiritual awakening.
