Old South SAVY Yoga – Community Yoga Class

SAVY Yoga has been serving the city of London and surrounding areas since 2011 under the most qualified and experienced faculty in LONDON and CANADA, and one of the most qualified and experienced faculty in the WORLD! To serve the people of London in a better way, instead of serving some run-of-the-mill pseudo-yoga routines, we offer some very useful and healing, authentic Yoga/ Meditation/ Pranayama routines, ranging from gentle to very challenging Yoga, for the  beginner to the advanced student alike.

Here, we bring to you an introduction to Yoga classes being taught at our Old South SAVY Yoga Studio at Wortley Road.

Through demonstration, discussion and experiential movement, you will gain key understanding of proper postures and how to keep your body safe. As common sense dictates, one can function properly only if one is disease-free and is in a healthy state of body, mind and spirit. So, for us, your health and disease-free state comes first of all. Yamas, Niyamas, Asanas, Pranayama, Swara, Mudras, Marmas, Kriyas, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana – our Yoga is much more than mere ekanga Yoga comprising gymnastics and sauna!

Old South Yoga Classes at SAVY, in the serene setting of the Heritage Conservation District of Wortley Village, bring to you the taste, values and expertise of the true traditional Ashtanga and Vinyasa Yoga from India. Inspired adherence to the eight pillars or steps of yoga bestow one with a calm mind and fit body and lead one towards attaining an emancipated life. In more physical or materialistic  terms, Yoga is more than capable of keeping one physically and mentally fit and disease-free. It has become the new hot and favored way to sweat it out for better health. SAVY Yoga is a humble step in that direction.

Old South SAVY Yoga – Community Yoga Class

Old South SAVY Yoga - Community Yoga Class

We offer Community Yoga Classes to contribute to the community. Vedic culture and Yoga philosophy considers the world to be a family – वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम् (vasudhaiva kutumbakam). It literally means that the whole world is a one family.

The words वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम् (vasudhaiva kutumbakam) come from the mantra VI-72 in Maha Upanishad from Samveda.

The mantra reads:

अयं बन्धुरयंनेति गणना लघुचेतसाम्
उदारचरितानां तु वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम् ॥

Meaning: The distinction “This person is mine, and this one is not” is made only by the narrow-minded (i.e. the ignorant who are in duality). For those of noble conduct (i.e. who know the Supreme Truth) the whole world is one family (one Unit). (The meaning of words like ‘family’ etc. should be understood in the context of what the Upanishad is talking about. It is describing the quality of a man who understood the Truth, transcending the multiplicity of the world). This Upanishad mantra is not a geo-politico-socio-cultural statement. It is a matter of fact.

With this aim in in our heart, we want to be helpful to our community as well as the rest of the world. This will also give us an opportunity to highlight different charitable causes and the services being provided by different charities.

For the Community Yoga classes, there is a suggested donation of $5 per class, but you are free to donate any or no amount. Proceeds will be donated for charitable causes.

This class has been structured for beginners though the themes of classes might differ. The good thing about yoga system is that there is something for everybody regardless of body weight, physical limitations/strength or flexibility.
