Yoga Fundamentals – Pregnancy Yoga

Yoga Fundamentals Series

SAVY Yoga has been serving the city of London and surrounding areas since 2011. To serve the people of London in a better way, instead of serving some run-of-the-mill pseudo-yoga routines, we offer some very useful, true Yoga/ Pranayama routines, ranging from gentle to very challenging routines, for a beginner to an advanced student alike.

Here, we bring to you a new series of classes on Yoga Fundamentals which introduce you to the benefits of authentic traditional ashtanga Yoga.

Pre-natal Yoga

Yoga Fundamentals – Pregnancy Yoga

The purpose of Yoga Fundamentals – Pregnancy Yoga Workshop is to introduce the pregnant women to the safe and useful practices of Yoga whether they opt to learn anew, or continue, the practice of Yoga after they become pregnant. Yoga has a lot to offer to the new would-be mother as well as the unborn baby being nurtured inside. This workshop is for the absolute beginner as well as for those who would like to revisit and clarify the basic principles.

The specialized Pre-Natal Yoga and Post-Natal Yoga programs are offered under the expert guidance of a Registered Pre-Natal Yoga Teacher (RPYT, with Yoga Alliance, USA) with specialized training and decades of experience. A good Pre-Natal Yoga program can prepare you well for the day – preparing for birth can bring much excitement as well as fear, and every emotion in between. This workshop provides women the opportunity to connect with their unborn baby, establish an overall sense of well-being, and learn tools to support body and mind during pregnancy and help with the labor and delivery.

We shall explore basic and safe yoga postures, breathing practices, mindfulness and more, in depth in this 4 – Class series and give you the confidence with your own personal practice. You`ll learn safe practices and experience the healing effects of Yoga. Through demonstration, discussion and experiential movement, you will gain key understanding of proper posture and how to keep your body safe. For us, your health comes first of all.

Join us for a unique, small group Pre-natal Yoga program that offers evidenced-based info and practical tools including but not limited to suitable Yoga postures, mindfulness and breathing practices. Get qualified support, get your questions answered and get help building trust in your abilities.

This class is open to any pregnant woman at any stage of pregnancy.

This series is offered periodically.

The program will consist of a group-based practice led by a knowledgeable and experienced instructor.

The same program is also taught on one-on-one basis.

We also offer a specialized Post-natal Yoga program.

See you on the mat!

Benefits of Yoga in Pregnancy

Here are some of the benefits of Yoga for the mom and the baby:

  1. Physical Strength For Delivery: Yoga strengthens shoulders, hips, legs and back and other areas as well as improves stamina which helps during the late stages of pregnancy as well as birth.
  2. Mental Strength: Birth is beautiful, but it’s also a shock to the mother’s hormonal schedule. Many women experience depression and anxiety both throughout the pregnancy and afterward. Yoga can strengthen your mind by preventing you from following those negative thought patterns.
  3. Ease The Aches And Pains: Many of the aches and pains during pregnancy are caused by the stretching of muscles and ligaments that move to make space for the growing baby. Yoga helps you to strengthen and stretch these areas so that they don’t hurt quite so much as they shift in your body. Also, mindfulness helps keep you stay positive.
  4. Balance: Yoga helps you with balance, physically and emotionally. Yoga helps you turn off your stress response, and turn on your ‘rest, relax and digest’ response.
  5. Tension relief of the back and hips: Yoga poses allow you to relieve some of that intense pressure of increase in spine curvature and tightening of hips caused because of increasing belly size by strengthening, loosening and breathing deeply into the areas of tension.
  6. Rest, Relax and Digest: Yoga awakens the parasympathetic nervous system, allowing your body to rest, digest and repair itself. It is important to turn on the ‘rest, relax and digest’ nervous system so that you and your baby can be as healthy as possible.
  7. Better Connection with Your Baby: According to Yoga, the mother and baby share the same aura from conception through the first few years of life. Yoga allows you to slow you down and allows you to tune into your body at a very deep level. By focusing on the breath and the postures that reach the depths of your muscles, it will allow you to focus on what is actually happening. This awareness gives you and opportunity to connect on a deeper level with your baby.
  8. Less Swelling: Yoga improves your circulation. As circulation of your blood is increased, swelling and inflammation decreases.
  9. Breathing In Labor: Calm, slow, deep breathing increases focus and decreases pain. During Prenatal Yoga practice, you form a habit of slow deep breathing which helps you prepare for the big day. Technique of ‘letting go’ can be helpful during labor.

No previous experience is required.
